What is Bioinformatics?
Bioinformatics is a new and rapidly evolving discipline that has emerged from the fields of experimental molecular biology and biochemistry, and from the artificial intelligence, database, and algorithms disciplines of computer science.
An undergraduate option in Bioinformatics for Computer Science and Biology
An undergraduate degree option in Bioinformatics for a Computer Science BS degree has been fully approved by the CSE curriculum committee (November, 2001), the general CSE faculty (January, 2001) , the College of Engineering and Computer Science curriculum committee (April, 2002), and by the University curriculum committee (May, 2002).
A bachelor of science in Biological Sciences with a Bioinformatics Option has been approved by the Department of Biological Sciences (April, 2001), the College of Science and Mathematics (May, 2001) and the University curriculum committee (May, 2002).
